Stanford salvaged the final game of the weekend series at Clemson scoring five runs in the fifth inning in an 11-6 win that snapped the Tigers’ eight game winning streak. The Tigers won the first two games of the series 11-1 in seven innings Friday night and 11-10 on Saturday.

Sunday, the Cardinal jumped out to a 3-0 first inning lead on an RBI double and a two-run homer. The Tigers tied the game over the next two innings. Jarren Purify had an RBI single in the bottom of the first. In the bottom of the second, Jack Crighton singled in one run, and Anthony Ciufo tied the game at three with a sac fly.

Stanford took the lead for good in the top of the fourth on a two-run homer, then blew the game open with five runs in the fifth. Clemson starter BJ Bailey was pulled after hitting the first batter of the inning and giving up a single putting runners on the corners. Hayden Lee came on and allowed back-to-back singles for two runs. After striking out the next two batters, Lee was touched for an infield single to third to load the bases, a two-run single down the left field line and another run scoring single to left

Trailing 10-3, Clemson fought back with a pair of runs in the bottom of the fifth on RBI singles by Purify and Collin Priest. The Tigers scored a run in the seventh on a wild pitch, but Stanford got that run back in the ninth with their third homer of the game.

Clemson was 5-22 with runners on base and stranded ten, while Stanford was 10-19 with runners on base and 7-12 with runners in scoring position. The Cardinal were also 8-17 hitting with two outs, and six of their runs scored with two away.

Bailey (2-1) pitched four innings and was tagged for seven earned runs on seven hits and two walks. He did not record a strikeout. He walked two and hit two. Tiger pitchers allowed 14 hits, including three home runs and three doubles, and struck out just six.

Clemson is now 33-6 overall and 11-4 in the ACC. The Tigers are off until Thursday when they open a series at home against Louisville.
