STRecruiting: Four in-state players, three from Clemson and one from USC, are going into the transfer portal

The college basketball transfer portal window opened today and three major contributors to the Clemson and USC programs are on the move according to various reports. Clemson is losing a pair.

Veteran forward Chauncey Wiggins has decided to test the waters after three seasons at Clemson. Wiggins is a native of Loganville, GA who played in 97 games during his career. He averaged about six points and two rebounds per game. This was his best season as he averaged over eigh points and three rebounds per game in 34 games. He was a starter most of the season until missing the Duke game due to illness. Dillon Hunter replaced him and stayed in the lineup until breaking his hand in the ACC Tournament. Wiggins was one of the Tigers’ better three point shooters hitting 36% of his deep shots, and he was an 81% shooter from the line.

Freshman guard Del Jones apparently felt one year at Clemson was enough. He, too, is planning to transfer according to reports. The Maryland native who came to Clemson out of an Arizona high school was an immediate impact player for Brad Brownell off the bench. He p[played in 32 games and averaged four points per game, but he brought a burst of energy to the floor when given his opportunities.

A third Clemson player, little used redshirt freshman forward Asa Thomas, also is transferring. He played in 12 games this season.

South Carolina is losing one year starter Nick Pringle who not only is going into the transfer portal but is also testing his NBA options. Pringle has already played four years of Division One ball but one of those was during the COVID season of 2020-21, and that does not count against his four years of eligibility. He could also get another year of eligibility from his one season in junior college.

This season for the Gamecocks Pringle started in all 32 games and averaged 9.5 points and 4.4 rebounds per game. He is the fourth player from this year’s team to opt out of the program.
