
Clemson won a back-and-forth affair against Penn State 75-67 to lay claim to the Sunshine Slam Championship (Beach Division) in Daytona, Fla., Tuesday.
Ian Schieffelin posted a double-double for the second consecutive game with 18 points and 13 rebounds. The senior center was also a key playmaker, registering a career-high eight assists a day after dishing out four assists in the second half of Monday’s win over San Francisco. Schieffelin also made his presence felt defensively with four steals and a pair of blocked shots.
Chase Hunter scored 10 of his 17 points in the second half to back Schieffelin’s big night.
Clemson (6-1) led by a basket at halftime but went cold midway through the second half, going scoreless on seven straight trips to allow Penn State to take a 59-56 lead with nine minutes remaining. The Tigers regrouped, however, getting 3-pointers from Hunter and Jaeden Zackery to wrestle the lead back for good.
Clemson is back at home against Florida A&M, Friday. Tipoff between the Tigers and the Rattlers from Littlejohn Coliseum is set for 7 p.m.
