College of Charleston baseball coach Chad Holbrook used words such as devastated, baffled, bewildered, disappointed and dejected after learning that his team had been snubbed by the NCAA Selection Committee and was not going to be a part of the 64-team NCAA tournament.
As it turned out, 41 victories and a regular season Coastal Athletic Association crown were not enough to get the Cougars into the postseason.
The Cougars were left out of the tournament despite a 41-14 record, an RPI of No. 42 and a 28-5 record in their last 33 games.
“It appears the only metric we didn’t have was a representative with a voice in the room,” Holbrook said. “I almost feel like I’m being punked in a weird joke. I can’t wrap my brain around the fact that we didn’t do enough to be in the NCAA Tournament.”
“I’m not going sit here and say that our players fell short. Our players did not fall short. They deserved to be in, and in fact, didn’t even deserve to be one of the last four teams in. They deserved to be safely in.”
“I think the committee felt very strongly about (strength of schedule) as we reviewed and vetted and scrubbed through an incredibly thorough process,” Hogue said. “And I think in many cases, that ruled the day… It underscores why it’s important to play as rigorous a schedule as you can, particularly out of the non-conference.”

The way this season ended is not sitting well with the coaching staff or the players. Khyree Miller – outfielder at the College of Charleston is also heartbroken, as this is his last collegiate game with the Charleston Cougars.
