#STRecruiting: Why LB Tavion Wallace has #Gamecocks on his short list

South Carolina made the recent cut down to 12 with LB Tavion Wallace (6-1 218) of Jesup, GA. He also has Arkansas, Kentucky, Florida, Auburn, LSU, Florida State, Tennessee, Louisville, Georgia, Michigan and Missouri on his list.

Wallace visited USC March 23rd for a spring practice. He also was in for a spring practice in 2023 and the recruits cookout last July. Gamecocks head coach Shane Beamer and linebackers coach/defensive coordinator Clayton White are putting a lot of work into Wallace, and he said their effort is a major reason they are still in the running.

“The coaching staff as far as how they check up on me every day,” Wallace said.  “Not just like once every blue moon.  The bond I have with the coaching staff, Coach Beamer, Coach White and the rest of the coaching staff, it’s a pretty good coaching staff.”

Putting it frankly, Wallace just likes how the USC coaches communicate with him.

“They just keep it real with me every time I talk to them,” Wallace said.  “It ain’t just all about ball.  It’s about making me a better person, a better man in the future for me and my family and everybody around me.”

The relationship with White is particularly crucial since he would be Wallace’s position coach should he choose the Gamecocks.

“It’s been pretty good I’d say,” Wallace said.  “At first, it wasn’t like that, as close, but since my friend (Matthew Fuller) committed as a running back, me and Coach White have gotten pretty close.”

Wallace said he does not have a favorite school from his top twelve at this point, but South Carolina certainly ranks at the top in terms of how hard they have been recruiting him.

“I’d say they stand out.  They do a real good job in recruiting.  I’d say the whole staff does a great job,” Wallace said.  “I’d say they are high up there. With the bond I have with the coaches, they are pretty high up on the list right now.”

Wallace is coming off a visit to Georgia last weekend. He also visited LSU in early March. He is scheduled to visit Florida April 9th and Florida State April 12th. He also hopes to get back to USC this spring.

Wallace has scheduled official visits to Arkansas May 31st, Georgia June 7th, Florida State June 14th and USC June 21st.
