USC Upstate head men’s basketball coach Dave Dickerson is reportedly returning to his coaching roots. Jeff Goodman reported Monday morning that Dickerson is heading back to Ohio State.
Dickerson has been the head coach at USC Upstate since 2018, going 65-117 during his tenure in Spartanburg. He was previously the head coach at Tulane from 2005–10, giving Jake Diebler, the Buckeyes new head coach, a veteran assistant with more than a decade of head coaching experience. Diebler was in his third year as associate head coach when he took over the team following Chris Holtman’s firing in mid-February. He had the interim tag removed a week ago after finishing the season 6-2 and earning the Buckeyes a spot in the N.I.T. Ohio State faces Georgia on Tuesday night in the quarterfinals.
Dickerson is a familiar face to Ohio State fans after serving as an assistant for Thad Matta’s final seven years in Columbus. He helped the Buckeyes to five NCAA Tournament appearances, including a trip to the Final Four, two Elite Eight berths, and three Sweet 16s.
