South Carolina quarterback LaNorris Sellers didn’t get much of an opportunity to show off his skills last season while playing in the shadow of Spencer Rattler. However, Gamecock fans did get a brief glimpse as to what the South Florence High School star can do, and that apparently is enough to get USC fans excited about this coming season.
Sellers played in just three games a year ago, with his coming-out party occurring in the blowout win against Furman. He threw a pair of touchdown passes, including a 50-yard strike to Tyshawn Russell at the end of the third quarter, before connecting with fellow freshman Nyck Harbor on a 7-yard toss for Carolina’s last score in the 47-21 win over the Paladins.
Now, with Rattler gearing up for the NFL draft, Sellers appears to be the frontrunner for the starting quarterback job this fall. And as the Gamecocks work through spring practice, he’s trying to assume more of a leadership role.
“I try to do the right thing all the time, so it’s just like bringing those other guys with me,” Sellers explained on Monday. “I’m not really like a loud, vocal guy. That was a step that I had to take. Talk in front of the team and coaching staff. Just building new relationships, really.”
Sellers sat down with the media on Monday to discuss spring practice and what he’s seeing from the Gamecocks through the first few spring workouts.
