A year ago, Coastal Carolina head football coach Tim Beck would walk around spring practice with a roster to make sure he knew which name belonged with which number. This year, that’s not a problem. Following an 8-5 campaign that culminated in a Hawai’i Bowl victory over San Jose State, the second-year head coach is much more comfortable in his surroundings.
The Chanticleers began spring practice earlier this week and, for the first time in quite a while, did so without Grayson McCall in the quarterback room. The three-time Sun Belt “Player of the Year” transferred to NC State during the offseason, leaving incumbent starter Ethan Vasko to lead the group under center. But Beck stresses that every position is up for grabs this spring as CCU prepares to put on pads for the first time this Friday.
On Thursday, which happened to be his 58th birthday, Beck met with the media to give a quick update on spring ball and how things are progressing along the coast.
