Westside captures 4A Championship in thrilling 34-32 win over defending champ South Florence (AUDIO)

Cutter Woods found a wide open Jimmar Boston for a 17-yard touchdown with 15 seconds remaining to rally Westside to the Class 4A state championship with a 34-32 victory over defending state champion South Florence Saturday afternoon.

It’s the Rams first state championship since 1969.

Westside (14-1) ripped off 14 wins in a row after losing the season opener to Belton-Honea Path. The loss for South Florence snapped a 29-game winning streak for the Bruins.

The Rams trailed 32-20 entering the final quarter. Woods threw both of his touchdowns in the final 10 minutes for the comeback win. He first connected with Josh Williams on a 14-yard touchdown with 9:48 remaining. Then he found Boston for the game-winner.

Woods threw for 238 yards and added a rushing TD just before the half that closed the deficit to 26-20 at the half. Sharode Richardson added a 70-yard scoring run and Dee Robertson started the scoring with a one-yard touchdown run.

South Florence got 201 yards rushing and one TD from Zion Gilbert. Syree Livingston scored three times and added 82 yards rushing. Raleigh Jett added a rushing score. South Florence finished 14-1.
