#STRecruiting: #Gamecocks one of the favorites with Southern Miss transfer OG Gerquan Scott

Gerquan Scott

South Carolina was one of the first major programs to offer Southern Miss transfer OT Gerquan Scott (6-4 330) Monday when he posted on social media that his time in Hattiesburg had come to an end. Scott, a native of Mobile, AL, redshirted in 2019 as a freshman, became a starter in 2020 and remained a starter at left guard for the Golden Eagles the rest of his career with them, though he did start two games at center this season. He started 40 of 45 games with Southern Miss.

Along with USC, Scott has received offers as a grad transfer from Auburn, Marshall, Tulsa, Colorado, Vanderbilt, Ole Miss, Houston and South Florida. The Gamecocks are right in the mix with him at this point.

“Yeah, for sure. They are in my top five schools right now,” Scott said. “I think they have a situation that I could fit in right now to better the team and better myself to get to the draft. As far as a visit I haven’t set one yet, but I plan to next month.”

One of the advantages the Gamecocks will have in recruiting Scott is offensive line coach Lonnie Teasley already knows him.

“The offensive line coach recruited me out of high school, so I feel as if he understands me more,” Scott said. “After talking with him it seems as if I have a chance to compete for a spot and develop into an NFL guard.”

This is Scott’s first interaction with the Gamecocks as a prospect, but he’s not unfamiliar with what they have been doing under Shane Beamer the last three seasons.

“I watched them throughout the season and I can just tell their players and staff love the game,” Soctt said. The fan base is strong and everyone seems like family. I’ve also heard coach Beamer is a standup guy and is always upfront and honest, and that’s the type guy that I would like to be around.”

The next step for Scott is to take some official visits, and he’s planning on making a stop in Columbia.

“Only ones planned are Ole miss and Auburn,” he said. “I want to make sure I take one to South Carolina, Colorado and maybe Oklahoma.”

Scott has set visits to Ole Miss for this coming weekend and Auburn the following weekend.
