Things did not go well for Tony Elliott in his first season as a head football coach. Following his successful stint as the offensive coordinator at Clemson, Elliott went 3-7 in a season cut short by two games due to the tragic shooting deaths of three members of the team in mid-November. So, not only did Elliott have to deal with the pressures of winning in major college football, he also had to be a rock for those around him in a time of tragedy.
Only three starters return from an offense that only averaged 17 points per game last season. Quarterback Brennan Armstrong is now at NC State, so former Monmouth QB Tony Muskett is penciled in as the starter. Former Clemson running back Kobe Pace will get the chance to carry the ball with the Cavaliers that he never got with the Tigers.
Another former Tiger, Malcolm Greene, will be a starter at corner. Eight defensive starters return from a unit that allowed just 24 points per game last season.
