


USC came up short in the recruiting battle for RB Braylen Russell of Benton, AR. Friday night Russell announced for the home state Arkansas Razorbacks. Tennessee was the other finalist The Gamecocks have one running back committed and are hoping to take two in the class. They are also a finalist for Daniel Hill of Meridan, MS along with Alabama and Tennessee. He has set August 23rd for his commitment announcement.
Clemson CB target Ashton Hampton of Tallahassee is set to announce his commitment decision Saturday. He has set the time for 2:00 PM. Clemson is the favorite of multiple recruiting analysts. Paul Strelow of Tiger Illustrated gave a projection of Hampton to Clemson in his report to his readers Friday morning. Hampton has also had Arkansas, Florida State, Florida, LSU and Miami on his short list.
Another Clemson target, WR Mike Matthews, is now trending toward Tennessee based on current projections by national analysts. Matthews has not announced a commitment date, but one is expected to be set soon. Georgia and Southern Cal are his other finalists.
USC is in the final six with 6-4 Bishop Boswell of Charlotte. The others are Missouri, Tennessee, Xavier, Georgetown and Wake Forest. Gamecocks’ coach Lamont Paris offered Boswell earlier this month after watching him perform at the Peach Jam in North Augusta. Last season Boswell averaged 12 points and over 5 assists and 4 assists in helping lead Myers Park to their first state championship.
USC missed on a top wide receiver target Thursday when Keylen Adams announced for Virginia Tech. According to Hale McGranahan of TheBigSpur, Adams had actually committed to USC coach Shane Beamer in June and was one of the commitment alerts Beamer tweeted out at that time. An official visit to Virginia Tech later in June, however, turned the Tide for the Hokies.
2025 6-7 Trey Maddox of Gray Collegiate was offered by Florida State.
Former South Carolina IF Kevin Madden and former Old Dominion catcher Robbie O’Neal are transferring to the College of Charleston per Rudy Jones of Palmetto Baseball.
