Last November, the Atlantic Coast Conference and the Southeastern Conference announced that the two leagues would compete against one another on the basketball court during the 2023-24 season. On Wednesday, we learned the matchups.
According to ESPN, the challenge will consist of 28 games (30 starting in 2025-26) and be broadcast on one of the ESPN platforms. Each conference will host an equal number of home games, with the event taking place from November 28th through November 30th. The creation of the ACC/SEC Challenge marks the end of the ACC/Big Ten Challenge, which ESPN established with the two conferences in 1999 as a first-of-its-kind event.
For SEC men’s basketball, the onset of the challenge with the ACC brings an end to its matchup with the Big 12 that began in the 2013-14 season. SEC women’s basketball conducted a challenge with the Big 12 from 2014 to 2021.
The upcoming matchups on the men’s side feature South Carolina hosting Notre Dame at 7pm and Clemson traveling to Alabama for a 9:30pm tipoff on Tuesday, November 28th. The USC women will be on the road for their portion of the challenge against North Carolina on Thursday, November 30th, while the Clemson women will play at Auburn later that night.
Also Wednesday, the SEC released the conference home and road assignments for women’s basketball, with USC’s much-anticipated matchup against defending national champion LSU taking place in Baton Rouge.
