In an overall disappointing day for USC athletics as the football team fell to Notre Dame 45-38 at the Gator Bowl, the Gamecock men’s basketball team provided a little salve for the wound. G.G. Jackson scored 24 points and grabbed nine rebounds as Carolina knocked off Eastern Michigan 74-64 at Colonial Life Arena on Friday night. Jackson led three Gamecocks in double figures as USC wrapped up its pre-SEC schedule with win number seven on the season. South Carolina visits Vanderbilt on Tuesday to begin conference play.
USC needed the strong effort from Jackson to somewhat offset the performance of Emoni Bates of EMU. The Memphis transfer and NBA prospect tallied a game-high 36 points on 13-of-25 shooting from the field. He also knocked down eight-three pointers to help account for over half of the Eagles’ scoring.
