Coastal Carolina quarterback Grayson McCall has announced via Twitter he will enter the transfer portal following the Chanticleers appearance in the Birmingham Bowl.
McCall, the three-time Sun Belt Conference Player of the Year, has amassed a 28-4 record as a starter at Coastal Carolina and holds the school record for touchdown passes (78). With McCall acting as the trigger man for Jamey Chadwell’s spread triple-option offense, the Chants reached new heights over the last three seasons. McCall blended the athleticism, passing accuracy and decision-making abilities necessary to make Chadwell’s offense go. In 2021, McCall set the FBS single-season record for passing efficiency (207.6) and was named a finalist for the Manning Award.
Chadwell has moved on to Liberty following his successful tenure at the helm of the Chanticleers program.
McCall has two seasons of eligibility remaining as the 2020 season was impacted by Covid.
McCall indicated he will “finish what I started” as Coastal Carolina takes a shot at winning 10 or more games for the third straight season. The Chanticleers will square off with East Carolina in the Birmingham Bowl on Dec. 27th at 5:45 p.m.
