Clemson on Wednesday received the public commitment from RB Gary Walker (6-1 200) of Fairburn, GA, winning out over Penn State, Florida, and Florida State. Walker, who rushed for 17i00 yards and 20 touchdowns last season, is regarded as one of the top running backs nationally in the 2027 class.
Clemson running backs coach CJ Spiller turned up his interest in Walker when he made him an offer in early March, not long after he had visited for a junior day event. Spiller had also been recruiting Tre Segarra and Andrew Beard at that time, but then his focus shifted to getting the Tigers in the game with Walker and beating the competition.
Offensive coordinator Chad Morris also became heavily involved with Walker, and along with Spiller, laid out for Walker the plan for how he would be used in the Morris offense.
“I feel they have a great plan for me,” Walker said earlier this spring. “He sees me being explosive and an every-down back. Explosive, strong, downhill running back. Break tackles, don’t get tackled one-on-one, don’t have too many negative plays, and home run ability.”
Walker had previously set his official visit with the Tigers for May 29th. He had also set official visits with Stanford, Virginia Tech, Penn State, and Florida State.
Walker is the ninth commitment for Clemson’s 2027 recruiting class and the fourth from Georgia.
