Columbia native 6-4 KJ Greene, who attends school in Atlanta, said he might be back in Columbia Saturday night for the Texas A&M football game. That would give Lamont Paris two of his top 2024 targets on campus at the same time as 6-4 Cam Scott of Lexington is set to make his official visit with the Gamecocks this weekend.
Greene has taken a few other unofficial visits to USC, the most recent one coming in mid-September for the Georgia game, and he said Paris and the staff are doing a good job of keeping him in the loop.
“They have been keeping up and seeing how I’m doing,” Greene said. “They send me clips from practices showing me how they play, how they use their guards. Seeing them play in practice and seeing Meechie (Johnson) do a lot of the stuff they want him to do, that’s basically what I’ve been talking to them about.”
Greene made an official visit to Georgetown last weekend. Earlier this month he made an unofficial visit to Clemson for a football game and to watch Brad Brownell put his team through a practice.
“It was really good,” Greene said. “I got to watch a practice. I got to see how the coaches coach in practice, how the players play in practice. That was really good. I got a tour of the campus and talked with Coach Brownell. I really go to know the staff and know the players. I talked to Josh Beadle a little bit. Of course, I went to the game and saw the atmosphere. It left me really intrigued about what Clemson has to offer.
Greene has been offered by Brownell, and he said the coach shared with him what they are looking for in a prospect and why he fits the mold.
“They said there’s a Clemson type of guy,” Greene said. “They like a guy that’s been in school, is not too hard to keep under control, you don’t have to really worry about anything. They also love my IQ. That was one big thing they talked about. They loved how I can play the game and play the game the right way. They want to use me as that lead guard to take them to that next step in the ACC. That was really what they were talking about.”
The Gamecocks and Tigers are making a concerted effort to be in the mix with Greene as he works toward a decision next spring. He has noticed that.
“They are both at the top of the list,” Greene said. “I don’t really have a favorite right now, but they are both definitely towards the top of that little bubble that I have from schools.”
Greene also has offers from Mississippi State, Harvard, College of Charleston, Missouri, Massachusetts, Tennessee, Georgia Pitt and Cincinnati. He has not scheduled any more official visits at this point.
