Gamecocks head basketball coach Frank Martin met with the media via Zoom, Monday, ahead of South Carolina’s home finale against Missouri. Martin’s club surrendered the considerable momentum it had built behind a four-game winning streak in a decisive loss at Alabama, Saturday.
Martin downplayed the significance of the loss, saying, “Nothing to hang our head about, we’ve got a real good team …. We got the version of Alabama that beat Gonzaga.”
Turnovers played the largest role in creating a first-half deficit too large for the Gamecocks (17-11, 8-8) to overcome. Despite the setback in Tuscaloosa, there is much left to play for down the stretch. USC is still jockeying for position and seeding for the SEC Tournament. With two regular season games left to play, South Carolina finds itself in a four-way tie for sixth place in the conference.
The Gamecocks will honor its seniors and fourth-year players on track to earn their degree this Spring before tipping off with Missouri at 7 p.m., Tuesday.
