Clemson hammered Hartford 6-1 in Game 1 of their series at Doug Kingsmore Stadium, Friday. The Tigers used what has become a familiar formula early this season: Quality pitching, timely hitting and a big fly from Caden Grice. Clemson ace Mack Anglin (2-0, 0.00) worked five scoreless innings to account for quality pitching, Tyler Corbitt’s RBI double came at an opportune time and Grice provided the coups de gras with his third homer of the season.
The Tigers played “ok” according to head coach Monte Lee, but it was good enough for his club to pick up a fifth straight win to open the season. Clemson and Hartford will finish the series tomorrow with a doubleheader beginning at 1 p.m.
