#STRecruiting: Smith to sign Wednesday with #Gamecocks with immediate scholarship

Spring Valley QB/SAF DQ Smith (6-2 180) committed to USC in mid-December but did not sign early because the Gamecocks were not sure there would be room for him in the class. The original plan was for him to sign next week as a grayshirt and go on scholarship for the 2023 class.

But Spring Valley coach Robin Bacon said Thursday afternoon Smith will sign Wednesday at 12:15 PM with USC and will be on immediate scholarship. That means Smith can report to the Gamecocks after he graduates and enroll this summer.

Smith was an outstanding quarterback for the Vikings. He accounted for 2100 yards and 28 touchdowns last season. But the Gamecocks always recruited him as a safety and convinced him that was his best route to the next level.

With Smith counting in this class, the Gamecocks have 31 going against the number for the 2022 class, and that leaves them with one available spot.
