11th ranked USC has a showdown with top ranked Arkansas starting on Thursday night at Founders Park in Columbia. The Gamecocks have won four straight SEC series, following a doubleheader sweep on Saturday at LSU. Meantime, the Razorbacks are atop the SEC West standings at 11-4 on the season and have posted a 30-6 overall record. Carolina enters the weekend a game back of first place Vanderbilt in the SEC East.
On Wednesday, Gamecocks head coach Mark Kingston and outfielder Andrew Eyster met with the media to preview the series with Arkansas. Much of the focus was on the increased attendance at Founders Park. USC announced on Monday that capacity for the remaining home baseball games will increase from 1,938 to 3,350. The increase is due to a change in socially distanced seating set up from 6-feet to 3-feet and guidance from campus health officials.
Another hot topic during the presser was the Gamecocks inability to pick up wins in their Friday (Thursday) SEC series. South Carolina is 1-4 in the first game of its conference weekend, while posting a 9-1 mark in the final two games of the set.
The Thursday & Friday games versus Arkansas are scheduled for 7pm with Saturday’s matchup slated for 4pm. However, there is the possibility that the series will wrap up with a doubleheader on Friday due to weather.
