One of the nation’s top linebackers in the 2020 class Sav’ell Smalls (6-3 227) Seattle released a top 12 Sunday and Clemson was among the select dozen. The others on the list are Alabama, Florida, Miami, Ohio State, Oklahoma, Georgia, Texas, Washington, Texas A&M, Florida State and Washington State.
“Yeah, I love Clemson,” Smalls said. “Obviously, they’re one of my favorite schools but I love the way they take care of their players and the family aspect of the program and how everybody handles themselves.”
Smalls is an outside linebacker who is highly regarded as an edge rusher. Clemson coaches got a close up look at him in camp last summer, and he watched the Clemson defense closely as the Tigers rolled to the national championship.
“They run a lot of games and put they guys in good positions to make plays, so that’s a defense that just looks real fun to play in,” Smalls said.
Smith missed the last five games of his junior season due to a sprained knee. Prior to the injury he recorded 40 tackles with 21 tackles for loss and 7 sacks. He also plays receiver and had 33 catches for 673 yards and 7 touchdowns.
Next up for Smalls will be several unofficial visits and then he’ll decide on his official visits. One of those unofficial stops will be to Clemson likely in April for the spring game.
