



As the SEC and ACC move to nine-game conference football schedules this upcoming season, more and more high-level encounters are disappearing. For instance, the 2028 and 2029 home-and-home football series between USC and UNC. The two programs announced today that they have mutually agreed to cancel those games. In a related move, South Carolina has added Bowling Green State University to its 2028 schedule.
Per USC Release: The Tar Heels were scheduled to play at Williams-Brice Stadium in Columbia, S.C., on Sept. 2, 2028, with the Gamecocks making the return trip to Kenan Memorial Stadium in Chapel Hill on Sept. 1, 2029.

The Tar Heels lead the all-time series between the two bordering flagship state universities by a 35-20-4 margin, but the Gamecocks have won seven of the last 10 meetings, dating back to 1988. The teams last met in Charlotte to open the 2023 season.
Bowling Green and South Carolina will open the 2028 slate at Williams-Brice Stadium in Columbia on a date to be determined. This will mark the first time that the Falcons, out of the Mid-American Conference, and Gamecocks will meet on the gridiron.
