Clemson will have its major official visit weekend for this recruiting season on May 29th. Most of the major targets for the Tigers will be in, and that will include DE Cahron Wheeler (6-5 260) of Baltimore.

Clemson defensive ends coach Chris Rumph has been hot on Wheeler’s trail and hosted him for an unofficial visit on March 7th. As a result, Wheeler has the Tigers in his final six.

“A lot of it was the coaching staff.  They’ve been recruiting me hard,” Wheeler said.  “I just really like the coaching staff.”

Wheeler said he was impressed with how Rumph worked his guys during the spring practice he attended.

“I like the way they coach,” Wheeler said.  “I saw how they used their edges, and the way they let their edges play, and how they also develop their edges in practice.”

That’s an important factor to Wheeler he views himself as a quarterback hunter. He had eight sacks among his 30 tackles last season.

Wheeler also has official visits set with Florida, Tennessee and Maryland, and also plans to set dates with Auburn and Virginia Tech, the other two in his final six. The official visits will go a long way in helping him decide on his college home.

“I need to feel like I’m home,” Wheeler said.  “I just need to feel comfortable there.  The people around me, I have to know they’re good people in charge.”

Wheeler said he does not have a favorite and he’s eyeing the end of summer for his decision.
