STRecruiting: WR DJ Huggins saw South Carolina in action on Saturday, and heard a lot from Shane Beamer and Mike Furry

WR DJ Huggins (5-11 165) of Kennesaw, GA was amongst the crowd of recruits watching South Carolina practice on Saturday, and then mingling with members of the coaching staff. At one time, Huggins had a lot of interest in the Gamecocks’ rivals to the northwest, but he’s moved on from Clemson and has found USC to be one of the places he could call home one day.

“Definitely what stood out the most was how Coach Furrey operates, how Coach Beamer operates,” Huggins said.  “The intensity of the practice.  Just how hard everybody practices.  From an offensive standpoint, how receivers work and want the ball.  Every rep was pretty much 100 percent.  The intensity was what they were preaching.  Coach Furrey was preaching how they are going to spread the ball around and get it in their playmakers’ hands.  I definitely liked hearing that.”

In his conversation with Beamer, Huggins said he wanted to get across the point that he won’t play for a finer receivers coach anywhere in the country than Furrey.

“Coach Beamer mentioned that Coach Furrey is one of the best to ever do it,” Huggins said.  “How good of a coach he is and how he can develop.  The offense they have is a good offense because they are going to be spreading it around.”

South Carolina has been up and coming with Huggins since offering him in late January. They moved up another notch or two with him after this visit.

“They are definitely a top school,” Huggins said.  “Getting up there definitely helped a lot.  Seeing the campus and seeing how South Carolina operates.  Definitely a top school.  I’ll get back up there probably for a junior day May 17th.”

Huggins has also visited Alabama and Georgia this spring. He is going back to Georgia this Saturday, and he plans to visit Arkansas on April 18th. He has also set official visits with Georgia on June 5th, Alabama on June 12th and USC on June 19th.

Last season, Huggins caught 67 passes for 1127 yards and 12 touchdowns.
