On the eve of the Portal gold rush, South Carolina and Clemson each lose a key offensive contributor, Clemson gets hit on the DL, plus other transfer announcements

The Transfer Portal will be open for business as of midnight January 2nd. Deals that have already been agreed to will be announced, and other deals will be forged in the days and weeks to come. Per the On3 Portal Database, in 2025, there were 4185 entries and 2835 exits. So far in 2026, there have been 1648 names entered into the database.

Two that went in on Thursday night were significant contributors at South Carolina and Clemson this season, Gamecock wide receiver Vandrevius Jacobs and Tiger tight end Josh Sapp.

Jacobs spent two seasons at USC after beginning his career at Florida State. With the Gamecocks, he played in 21 games starting 10. He caught 44 passes for 729 yards and four touchdowns.

Jacobs led the Gamecocks in receptions this season with 32 for 548 yards and four touchdowns. He became the Gamecocks’ most reliable receiver down the stretch of this season. He totaled 11 receptions against Texas A&M and Clemson, the last two games he played in.

Jacobs becomes the 14th scholarship player at USC to announce transfer plans since the end of the season.

Sapp, a Greenville High grad and son of former Clemson quarterback Patrick Sapp, has spent his entire career at Clemson. He layed in 41 games over four seasons, including a redshirt season as a true freshman, and caught 24 passes for 273 yards and 2 touchdowns. He was also a key blocker from the tight end position.

The Clemson defense line also took a hit Thursday night with the news that a pair of tackles, Stephiylan Green and Caden Story, plan to transfer. The two were expected to be front-liners for the Tigers in 2026. Green spent three seasons with the Tigers and played in 24 games, starting six. He totaled 34 tackles with five tackles for loss and 3.5 sacks.

Story spent four seasons with Clemson and graduated in December. He never started a game. He played in 24 in his career and had 10 tackles and a half a sack.

Clemson SAF Rob Billings also is transferring. In three seasons he played in 32 games and totaled seven tackles. The Tigers currently will have nine scholarship players in the Portal.

Coastal Carolina TE Brooks Johnson, placekicker Kian Afrookhteh, and LB Geajorm Akpaloo are transferring. Johnson, who prepped at Nation Ford, spent three seasons with the Chants and caught 12 passes for 105 yards and a touchdown. Afrookhtech spent one season in Conway after transferring from Nevada. This season he was 15-17 on field goals with a long of 44 yards. And Akpaloo, a product of Myrtel Beach Collegiate, played in 17 games over two seasons and made 12 tackles.

Columbia native WR Devin Hyatt (6-2 192) is transferring from Arizona. Played at Dutch Fork before transferring to IMG Academy. He redshirted 2023, played in 12 games in 2024 and 2 games this season, he had 8 catches for 119 yards at UA. He suffered a severe ankle injury in the 2024 Arizona State game that required surgery. He was offered by South Carolina in high school.

Gaffney native DE Nate Johnson (6-6 225) could be a Portal watch for South Carolina and Clemson. He was a standout for two seasons at App State but only played in 9 games at Mizzou this season
