STRecruiting: Irmo OT Nate Carson has had his first contact from new USC offensive line coach Randy Clements

Irmo OT Nate Carson (6-5 270) is not only one of the top prospects in South Carolina for 2027, he’s also regarded nationally as one of the top offensive linemen in the class. In January, he will play in the Under Armour All-American Game. So, it’s no surprise that new South Carolina offensive line coach Randy Clements made one of his first recruiting contacts with Carson earlier this week.

“We texted.  We had one conversation, but that’s about it,” Carson said.  “He was just saying that he’s ready to build this relationship and bond with me.  I haven’t done any research about him, I’m just ready to see what he can do for me.”

Carson added that the changes Shane Beamer made to his offensive staff did not negatively impact his feelings for the Gamecocks.

“I feel like they did what was best for the program,” Carson said.  “I loved the other coaches, but sometimes you’ve got to move on.  That’s what they did. But, no change at all.  Still the same thing. I’m deciding my top ten right now.  I only have USC, Alabama, and Tennessee in there right now.  I’m looking at development, and how many people they are putting in the NFL, because that’s the main goal for me, the NFL.”

Carson said Clemson also remains a factor with him, and he has been in touch with offensive line coach Matt Luke.

Carson has not yet decided on January visits, but he knows he will make his commitment announcement on July 3rd. He also has a plan for improving as a player by working several days a week at Train Built in Greenville under the watchful eye of former North Greenville offensive lineman Amos Lamb.

“What me and my trainer have talked about, I want to be college-ready,” Carson said.  “He’s training me to be a college athlete, so that’s what we’re doing right now.  When I get on the field my senior year, I want all these coaches to know, oh yeah, he’s ready to go to college.  It’s going to be tough going against this guy.  I want to improve on everything; speed, physicalness, aggression.  I just want to be way better than what I was last year.”
