STRecruiting: Correction to this story as South Carolina is not pursuing JUCO OT David Conner as I reported

I learned Tuesday morning that this story that I wrote on junior college OT David Conner is not correct. While Conner did attend the USC game on Saturday, he was there on his own, not on an official visit. He has not been offered by the Gamecocks, nor has head coach Shane Beamer ever talked with him. South Carolina is not recruiting him. I could have just deleted the story, but in the interest of full disclosure and honest reporting, I felt it was best to just add this correction to the original story. I apologize for reporting the wrong information.

South Carolina head coach Shane Beamer and offensive line coach Shawn Elliott brought in OT David Conner (6-6 307) of Andrew JC, GA, for an official visit over the weekend. Conner and his family arrived in Columbia late Thursday night, then got down to the business of the visit on Friday.

“It was a cool, good visit,” Conner said Monday.  “We toured the campus and all that.  We went out to eat, met the coaches, and the people.  Just talked about plans for me if I come there.  Plans for the program and what they see in the future, and what they see me doing.”

Saturday, Conner made his first visit to Williams-Brice Stadium for a game as USC took down Coastal Carolina.

“It was good.  They went out there and handled their business against Coastal.  They knew what they needed to do.  I enjoyed it.  That was my first time being in Columbia and getting to go out there and watch them and see what they do.  It was a great experience.  I hope to be back soon, maybe.  They are close to the top for sure.  I’m not putting any positions out there, but they are up there for sure.”

In his conversations with Beamer and Elliott, Conner said it was clear they are looking to revamp the offensive line for 2026.

“They need experienced offensive linemen who can come in right now and handle business and go to work, and do what they need to do,” Conner said.  “They know I can do it.  They know I’ve been doing that.  They just see me coming in and fitting in on their O-line day one as soon as I get there, if that’s where I plan to go.”

Conner said Beamer, in particular, was impressed by his film.

“He liked what I did this year.  He liked what I put together,” he said. “He liked what I put out, and how I played, and how I dominated everybody I went against every game. He said he thinks I can piece a key piece in their O-line next year.”

The question after the visit was, will Beamer and Elliott make Conner an official offer? He left the visit without an offer, but he said Monday night the Gamecocks offered him later in the day.

Conner plans to visit Syracuse this weekend, and then he might try to work in a visit to NC State. He is planning to make his decision on December 4th.

Conner began his career at Florida and has also been enrolled at Colorado and Texas State.
