STRecruiting: 6-6 Amare James recaps the official visit to Clemson last week and what’s next for him

The early signing date for basketball is November 12th and will run through the 19th, so the prospects who are still working on decisions will be picking up the pace this week. One of those is 6-6 Amare James of Marietta, GA. He was recently offered by Clemson and made an official visit last week.

“It was very nice.  High-major school. They have all the facilities and resources you would need to be a great player,” James said.  “Go to see everything that they had: the practice facility, all the recovery, the weight room.  It was very cool to see because you could see why people put in so much work to be great.”

James is not a highly recruited player, but he’s the kind of player Brad Brownell has taken in the past, one who doesn’t shy away from defense and who can be developed into a Clemson-style player. James learned a lot about the program from his conversations with Brownell and assistant coach Sean Dixon.

“Clemson is Clemson.  It’s an ACC school and they are high level,” James said.  “Their play style fits me as a player, how they use their guard/wings.  It fits me a lot.  I very much enjoyed Clemson.  I like what they stand for and how they develop kids.  It’s definitely one of my top options.”

James said a final decision on his future plans is not far off.

“I’m going to know soon,” he said.  “I’m not just jumping the gun or anything, but I’ll definitely have a decision here soon on what I’m doing for my college situation.  I don’t have a specific date, but it will be before my season.  We have our first official game November 15th.”

James has also taken an official visit to Evansville, and he is scheduled for an official visit to Southern Indiana this weekend.
