Yellow Jackets continued their late-season surge with a road victory over Morehouse College, putting together back-to-back 28-point performances. Jamir Dismukes completed 16 of 23 passes for 268 yards and 3 touchdowns, including a 49-yard strike to Marcus Fleming and a 75-yard bomb to Mike Bowman. Allen is 4-5 and 4-3 and will host Edward Waters this Saturday at Fairfield Central.
Newberry 24-Anderson 21
Burke Nettles provided the winning margin with a 22-yard field goal with 23 seconds remaining. That play capped a clutch seven-play, 75-yard drive that culminated in the winning field goal. The game also featured another Wolves rally as they trailed 14-7 in the second quarter and didn’t grab their first lead of the game until the fourth quarter. Quarterback Reed Charpia completed 26 of 41 passes for 310 yards and two touchdowns, De’Andre Coleman had a career-best eight receptions for 112 yards and a score, and Jamar Blandin led the defense with ten tackles, including two and a half sacks and three quarterback hurries. Newberry earned at least a share of the SAC title and is 8-1 and 7-1. The Wolves host Carson-Newman Saturday with the winner earning the automatic bid to the D2 Playoffs. Wilson Edwards made his first start under center for the Trojans and led the way with 196 yards through the air and a pair of touchdown tosses. Redshirt-senior JB Seay Jr. rushed for 145 yards. Anderson is 5-5 and 3-5 and close out the season Saturday at Catawba.
Benedict 42-Virginia-Lynchburg 10
Benedict rushed for a season-high 239 yards, while holding Virginia University of Lynchburg to just 12 yards on the ground. The Benedict defense recorded nine sacks on the day, and the Dragons were held to just 1-of-16 on third-down conversion attempts. Triston Morgan led the ground attack with 103 yards on just nine carries, and scored a pair of touchdowns. The Tigers are 8-1 and 6-1 and complete the regular season Saturday at Savannah State.
Charleston Southern 23-Southeast Missouri State 17
The Bucs used a fake field goal and a successful onside kick in the second quarter to get control of the game and set up for the victory as Zolten Osborne eclipsed 300 passing yards for the first time in his career. Osborne finished the day going 17-35 through the air and had a career-high 302 yards as well as a passing and rushing touchdown. Bucs hve won three straight and are 4-6 and 3-3. They are off this week.
The Citadel 35-VMI 24
Fueled by a trio of Quentin Hayes-to-Jihad Marks touchdown passes as well as a clutch fourth-quarter turnover from Jeremiah Holmes, the Bulldogs scored 28 straight points in the fourth quarter, including three touchdowns within the span of 7:55 en route to the Bulldogs’ first lead of the day. The Bulldogs racked up a total 511 total yards, including 329 yards with two touchdowns in the ground game, along with 182 yards through the air for three scores. The fourth-quarter surge for The Citadel featured 269 yards on 23 plays. The Bulldogs are 4-5 and 3-3 and play at Ole Miss Saturday.
Chowan 34-Erskine 30
The Fleet’s offense delivered in the clutch, a 5-yard touchdown catch by Josh Brown for the go-ahead score inside the final minute. However, Chowan ran the ensuing kickoff back for a touchdown to win. Ryan Killmer went 19-for-25 with 210 passing yards and three touchdowns. Logan Coldren crossed the century mark for the second consecutive week, recording 100 yards on 23 carries. Erskine is 1-8 and 1-4 and wraps up the season Saturday at Barton.
Mercer 52-Furman 28
Mercer gained 628 yards of total offense and converted 36 first downs while holding Furman to just 227 total yards and eight first downs. Braden Atkinson threw for 426 yards and four touchdowns. The Bears’ defense sacked Trey Hedden four times and registered seven tackles-for-a-loss. The Paladins are 5-4 and 3-3 at play at Chattanooga Saturday.
North Greenville 27-Ferrum 0
North Greenville did all of its scoring in the first half with 10 – points in the first quarter and another 17 in the second. \In total, NGU racked up 289 – net rushing yards against the Panthers defense and another 102 through the air. Kimon O’Sullivan led NGU in rushing with 108 – yards on 17 carries. The Trailblazers finished with 418 – yards of total offense. North Greenville is 5-4 and 5-0 and will play at Shorter Saturday. The Timberwolves will host UNC Pembroke on November 15th in the Conference Carolinas Championshp Game.
Presbyterian 43-Valparaiso 17
Collin Hurst completed 81 percent of his passes and threw for 278 yards. Both of his touchdown tosses went to Dominic Kibby, while other highlights included a 22-yard scoop and score by linebacker Michael Torres. The Blue Hose totaled 446 yards. They are 8-1 and 4-1 and will play at Davidson Saturday.
SC State 36-Morgan State 30
William Atkins IV threw for 363 yards and a touchdown, Tyler Smith ran for a pair of touchdowns and South Carolina State held off Morgan State. The Bears scored three touchdowns in the fourth quarter to get to within one score but the Bulldogs recovered an onside kick to seal the win. Running back Tyler Smith ran for 110 yards on 18 carries for the Bulldogs to lead the ground attack , while teammate Jordan Smith caught four passes for 107 yards to lead the receiving corps. The Bulldogs are 6-3 and 2-0 and host Howard Saturday.
Wofford 26-Samford 16
The Terriers had two interceptions, including one returned for a touchdown, by Maximus Pulley. Wofford had 191 total yards on offense, with 111 rushing yards. Samford had 351 total yards, with 332 of those passing yards. Wofford is 3-6 and 2-3 and plays at VMI Saturday.
