There will be a boatload of football recruits inside Clemson’s Death Valley Saturday night for the season opener against LSU. Mixed in among them will be a prime target of basketball coach Brad Brownell in 6-5 Harris Reynolds of Atlanta.
Reynolds will be making an official visit with the Tigers, one of seven he has scheduled.
Clemson has been recruiting Reynolds for the past two years. The Tigers evaluated Reynolds again on the summer circuit and were impressed enough that Director of Recruiting Lucas McKay and Brownell made him an offer. At Peach Jam, he was named the Breakout MVP after averaging 15 points and 8.5 rebounds per game.
“Around my sophomore year, Coach McKay reached out, and we’ve just had a relationship since then,” Reynolds said. “This summer, I got an offer from them, and we just kept up building our relationship. “It was crazy. I’ve been watching Clemson sports since I was a kid, so it meant a lot. I used to like Deshaun Watson a lot. I played football from third grade to eighth, and then when I got to high school, I just took on basketball.”
Reynolds has visited Clemson twice in the past. He came in for a visit with his brother, who was being recruited as a swimmer by the Tigers. He also attended the home basketball game last season against California. That visit gave him a good look at how the Tigers play the game, and if he could work in their system.
“I think it will fit me well,” he said. “They’ve been on a pretty good run in basketball the last couple of years. I think they’re system will fit me well.”
The other official visits set up by Reynolds between this weekend and October 10th are Virginia Tech, Vanderbilt, USF, VCU, Saint Louis and Texas A&M.
“Everybody is at the same level right now,” Reynolds said. “I guess when these visits crank up, I’ll have a better understanding. When I come in, I want to be given a chance to be able to showcase how good I am and be given a chance to play. I don’t want to come in and just be on the bench as a freshman. And then, look for development to get me to the next level.”
Reynolds will be one of two official visitors this weekend for Clemson basketball. 6-10 Will Stevens of Lake Norman, NC will also be making his first official visit. He also plans to take officials to Vanderbilt, South Carolina, Davidson and St. Mary’s.
