It’s been quite the summer for up and coming seven-foot Jones Lay, a one time Green Sea-Floyds and Atlantic Collegiate athlete now attending Moravian Prep in Hickory, NC. His recruiting heated up after coaches saw him on the circuit. And with several major offers in hand, he took time off to vacation at Disney World, where he was able to fit on all the rides he chose except for one.
Now that the fun and games are over, Lay is focusing more on his recruiting and his decision. He previously had set his first official visit with Florida for September 5th Wednesday night he told SportsTalkSC he has also set an official visit with Lamont Paris and South Carolina for September 12th.
“We’ve just been talking and setting up the visit,” Lay said about recent contact with Park. “It’s just been basic recruiting stuff, why I should go to them. I hear from them about every three days.”
Lay said one of the attractions to the Gamecocks for him is how Paris incorporates the big men in his offense.
“They ran a good bit of high-low last year, so it would be pretty easy dump off for a dunk or a lob for a dunk,” he said. “Collin Murray-Boyles last year, they got him involved a lot in the post and the elbow. They try to get the big man involved a lot.”
Lay said he also plans to take official visits to Santa Clara and Loyola Marymount. As he makes his official visits, there are a few things he wants to see from the schools in determining his best fit.
“Really just looking for a culture that really wants me, a good culture and winning culture that I can see myself in,” Lay said. “Be a part of a team that can push me to be the best player I can be, and where I can help win. Just contribute to the winning part of the game.”
Lay said he he is looking at the early to middle part of October for making his decision. He said hed does not have a favorite at this point among the four schools he plans to visit.
