The annual Birdies With Beamer media golf tournament was held on Monday at Cobblestone Park in Blythewood sans the man around whom the tournament is centered. USC head coach Shane Beamer was in Greenville at the South Carolina Athletic Coaches Association All-Sports Clinic and didn’t arrive until late in the round.

Once play was competed, and former Gamecock stars Sterling Sharpe and Harold Green and the rest of their team were recognized as the winners for a fourth straight year, Beamer met with the media for the first of two sessions this week. He will have a media day with his assistant coaches and many of his players on Thursday.

The major news coming from Beamer was no news at all. After his opening comments, he was asked about running back Rahsul Faison, who has been waiting for months for a ruling by the NCAA on another season of eligibility. Beamer said he had nothing new to report on Monday. He added that he will allow Faison to practice with the team while he remains in limbo until he is told otherwise.

As for injuries, Beamer said they are in good shape at this point and he’ll have more on that front at his Thursday press conference.

The Gamecocks will report for camp on Thursday and will have their first practice on Friday. They will open the season August 31st in Atlanta against Virginia Tech.
