The offers continue to pour in for Catawba Ridge 2027 CB Joshua Dobson (6-1 180). In the last few days he has received new offers from Michigan, LSU and Oregon. By the time he’s finished collecting offers, Dobson potentially could have an offer from every major program in the country. He’s viewed as being that good.
“Honestly, it’s not really something I saw coming, but all the work that I’ve put in, I feel like I’ve earned it,” Dobson said. “Going into my freshman year, I was small, like 5-11, playing at like 160 (pounds). Going into my sophomore year when I put in all the work, I started going to camps and earning all my offers. Right around there I knew this is for me and I was going to take off.”
Take off he has. Of course, South Carolina and Clemson have been there since lift off and will no doubt figure prominently in his recruiting process.
“They both are staying really consistent. No particular lean,” Dobson said. “I love both the coaching staffs. They are really outgoing, and they love who they recruit. I can appreciate that.”
Dobson went to the LSU at USC game last season, and the Citadel at Clemson game. He also went to the spring games at both USC and Clemson. He has penciled in the LSU at Clemson game for his first college game of this season, and has not yet scheduled others.
As the list grows, so does the work in trying to narrow things down to a few favorites at some point in the future.
“If I know what I’m looking for out of these schools and they are showing out, then probably mid-season,” Dobson said. “If there’s other schools that still are contacting me more than the schools I’m already thinking about dropping, then probably January. And probably around this time, early July, late June of my junior year (on a decision).”
At some point, Dobson will have to address the issue of playing his college football in-state or venturing outside the borders of South Carolina. An issue to some, but not to him.
“Honestly, I haven’t really paid attention to that because people are going to think I would want to stay in-state, but honestly, I feel like I can play anywhere,” Dobson said. “I could stay in-state, or I could play out of state.”
Last season Dobson totaled 48 tackles with 10 pass break ups and three interceptions. He also had 450 return yards on 11 kick offs, an average of over 40 yards per return. Dobson will also add receiver duties to his job description this season, and he expects to post impressive numbers on that side of the ball as well.
