Coastal Carolina baseball is more than good enough to beat you on its own. The Chanticleers have proven that over their nearly two-month-long winning streak. When you help them, it makes your task nearly impossible.
On Sunday, Oregon State found that out the hard way.
In a 1-0 matchup between CCU and OSU at the College World Series, the Chanticleers scored three runs in the first inning and tallied four unearned runs total on two Beavers’ errors to post a 6-2 victory over Oregon State. With the win, Coastal moves into the “Bracket #1” final on Wednesday, where they will await the winner of Tuesday’s contest between Oregon State and Louisville. The Cardinals stayed alive on Sunday with a remarkable 8-3 comeback win over Arizona. The setup bodes well for CCU, as 31 of the previous 42 teams to start the CWS 2-0 have advanced to the championship series.

In a prototypical Coastal inning, the Chanticleers jumped on OSU starter Ethan Kleinschmit right from the beginning. A throwing error allowed CCU’s Caden Bodine to reach first base. After a balk moved Bodine to second, Blake Barthol walked, and Walker Mitchell was hit by a pitch to load the bases. With two outs, Colby Thorndyke laced a bases-clearing double into left-center field that gave CCU an early 3-0 edge, a lead the Chanticleers would not relinquish en route to their 25th straight win.
Game Recap Courtesy of the NCAA: Coastal Carolina secured the first of four spots in the MCWS semifinals, beating Oregon State, 6-1, and upping its win streak to 25 games. A balanced attack at the mound and the plate, the Chanticleers were a step ahead of the Beavers from start to finish.
The winning team went on the offensive early, specifically Colby Thorndyke. With bases loaded and two outs, the first baseman hammered a three-RBI double in the first inning to give Coastal Carolina a 3-0 lead.
Oregon State answered with a solo home run in the third by Easton Talt, but outside of him, the Beavers’ bats were quiet due to Chanticleers’ ace Jacob Morrison. The right-hander proved on the biggest stage why he already has 11 wins to his name, mowing through Oregon State’s lineup three times.
After Talt’s homer, he retired 16 batters straight — the third time in the MCWS since 2011.
Morrison allowed just five hits and one run across 7.2 innings, the longest by any pitcher in the MCWS since LSU’s Ty Floyd in 2023. Coastal Carolina tacked on two more runs in the fourth and another in the fifth to take a 6-1 lead, and would hang on to it for the remainder of the game.
Oregon State will face Louisville on Tuesday, a rematch of Friday’s opening contest for both teams. Coastal Carolina will play the winner of the two on Wednesday.
