South Carolina coach Lamont Paris went out west for his latest addition to the Gamecock men’s basketball program. On Friday, Nordin Kapic of UC San Diego announced a pledge to USC from the transfer portal.
The 6-foot-8 Austrian helped UC-San Diego to its first NCAA Tournament appearance in his lone year with the program. Kapic (pronounced Kay-Pitch) started 33 games this season and averaged 11 points and 5 rebounds. He scored a season-high 25 points against CSU Bakersfield on Dec. 7 and tossed in fifteen points with seven rebounds in the Tritons’ NCAA tournament loss to Michigan.
Before UC-San Diego, Kapic played two seasons at Division II Lynn College in Florida, where he was Sunshine State Conference Freshman of the Year in 2023 and first-team all-conference the following year. He led the Sunshine State Conference in scoring (19.3), including a 42-point performance against Tampa, and was fifth in rebounding (9.2) in the 2023-24 season.
With transfers, returnees, and incoming freshmen, the Gamecocks’ roster now stands at 12 players.
