OG Tre Aiken (6-4 305) of Clinton wrapped up his scheduled spring unofficial visits last weekend at NC State. Prior to that visit he had been to Georgia Tech, Florida, Virginia Tech and South Carolina. Those schools comprise his five finalists.
Aiken said this week he had no other plans for spring visits, even to the USC spring game a week from Friday, though he left the door cracked for another visit to before his official visit. He’s in regular contact with Shane Beamer, Lonnie Teasley and the recruiting office.
“I talk to Sam (Serbay) just about every week. Me and Coach Teasley text often. And Coach Beamer, that’s who keeps in touch,” Aiken said. “They’re just telling me how much they want me down there and how much of a good piece I would be for them. Interior lineman is what has been the understanding, which is no problem for me. Being able to play all five, that’s when that kicks in.”
March 29th was the day Aiken made his spring visit to USC, and he scheduled the visit for that date so he could watch the offensive line in action against the defensive front.
“The guys got after it. The big guys got after it,” Aiken said. “The D-line and the O-line was competing, and Coach Teasley was working their tails, pushing them to do better, especially in the team period. The boys got after it and were dominating, though it wasn’t complete domination.”
Besides being the home state school, also working in South Carolina’s favor with Aiken is his long running relationship with Teasley.
“Great guy,” he said. “I’ve been talking to him since late in my ninth grade year. That was one of his talking points when I got down there. He sat me down and was like, there’s not many coaches you can say literally watched you grow up and develop as a player and a person. That’s just something special that we’ve got that I can’t really say I have with too many coaches.”
Aiken has four official visits set. He starts with Georgia Tech May 30th followed by NC State June 6th, Virginia Tech June 13th and USC June 20th. Aiken said he expects to make his commitment announcement within a couple of weeks of his final official visit, which would make for sometime around mid July.
