STRecruiting: 6-5 Shane Blakeney is the latest free agent take by South Carolina

6-5 Shane Blakeney is headed to USC (Drexel Athletics)

South Carolina on Sunday gained it’s fourth commitment/signee from the free agent market in 6-5 Shane Blakeney of Drexel. It will be a homecoming for Blakeney who is from Rock Hill and a product of Legion Collegiate. His agents shared the news first with Draft Express. Blakeney also drew interest from Mississippi State, Wake Forest, Texas Tech, Oklahoma, Ohio State, Memphis, Wisconsin, Vanderbilt and Texas according to reports. This past season he averaged over 14 points and five rebounds per game. He was a second team All-CAA selection and was named to the All-Defensive Team. In three seasons with the Dragons, Blakeney averaged nearly nine points per game. He shot 40% from the floor, 35% from three and 69% from the line.

2024-25 / Sophomore
Drexel’s sixth man as a sophomore…appeared in all 33 games…averaged 7.5 points and 3.6 rebounds per game…sank 73 percent of his free throws as a sophomore… finished second on the team with 19 blocked shots and had three against both Colgate and Monmouth…handed out 52 assists and had 22 steals…shot 34 percent from long range and had 37 3-pointers…had his best game of the season in the CAA Quarterfinals vs. Towson…was 9-for-11 from the floor and 5-for-6 from behind the arc against the Tigers…finished the game with a career-high 24 points…had 11 games with at least 10 points, including six of his final nine games of the 2024-25 season…shot well down the stretch, sinking 15 of his last 25 3-point attempts…narrowly missed a double-double with 16 points and a career-high nine rebounds in the win against Fairfield.

2023-24 / Redshirt Freshman
Appeared in 22 games off the bench in his first season of game action at Drexel…played an average of 5.5 minutes per game…chipped in with 2.0 points per game…poured in a season-high 12 points against North Carolina A&T…sank three 3-pointers in the game and was 4-for-8 from the floor…scored nine points and had season-best three assists vs. Penn State Greater Allegheny…finished the season shooting 35 percent from behind the arc (9-for-26) and 39 percent overall.

2022-23 / Freshman
Redshirted his first year with the Dragons.

Graduated from Legion Collegiate Academy in Rock Hill, S.C…a four-year varsity letterwinner…was his team’s offensive player of the year in 2022 and the team MVP in 2021…recipient of the Coach Anthony Hutchison scholarship…was ranked the top point guard for Big Shots and Prep Hoops…a 5-A All-Region selection in 2019 and 2020…scored more than 1,000 points in high school…his team was ranked third in the state of South Carolina in 2022…an honors student who earned multiple college credits in high school…previously attended Rock Hill High School.

Personal
Son of Libra and Thomas Jackson and Jamie Blakeney…is oldest of four children…his grandfather and uncle both played at Cheyney and went on to play professional basketball…they were both All-Americans and his uncle, Charles Kirkland, was drafted by the Milwaukee Bucks…majoring in marketing.
