Some key comments from Shane Beamer press conference
- Really likes the team, lot of new faces, lot more work to do, lots to improve on, their whole think is to continue to work and take things farther than last season. There’s no depth chart, no preconceived notions about anything, told players this morning to show them
- Those out for spring practice due to injury are Michael Smith, Caleb Williams, Ryan Brubaker, and Damola Ajidahun.
- Wide open for all the spots on special teams since they lost everyone…punter, kicker, snapper and holder. Need to get better in the return game as well and will have a new kick returner as well.
- Optimistic about transfer RB Rahsul Faison being cleared by the NCAA and hopes to hear something soon on that. Also, they are moving forward with their plans for a spring game.
- Faison is allowed to practice, looking forward to seeing Adaway take the next step, he did a lot of good things for them last season and he’s very motivated to have a big season, Fuller and Howell have had a good offseason and time for them to take the next step and compete, lots of bodies in the running back room.
- Not concerned about other teams scouting his players in a spring game, said other coaches know his roster, also spring game setting at Williams-Brice is a big deal and is a big recruiting event for his program. His players love to compete, even in a spring setting, and the game gives them a chance to play in front of a crowd they don’t get in the pre-season.
- LaNorris Sellers of course is the starting quarterback and will be hard to be out but he wants to see Air Noland, Cutter Woods and the others compete, Noland has worked hard and gotten into good shape, Dante Reno has taken a step, Woods has his first practice as a Gamecock Wednesday, it’s a very young and inexperienced QB room after Sellers.
