A crucial two weeks in recruiting has Clemson coach Dabo Swinney focused on a critical target for his defense. DE Dre Quinn (6-4, 228) of Norcross, GA is that target, and the Tigers are continuing to develop a dialogue with him.
The Peach State edge rusher received an offer in early November after a visit for the Tigers’ matchup with Louisville. It was Quinn’s first time on campus, and the gameday atmosphere certainly caught his attention. A few months later, that relationship continues to grow.
Swinney, defensive ends coach Chris Rumph and safeties coach Mickey Conn advanced their cause with Quinn by making a home visit with him this month.
“I’m glad Coach Swinney and Coach Rumph paid me a visit,” Quinn said. “The conversations went well. I’ve built an outstanding relationship with Clemson since the day I visited.”
Clemson isn’t the only school that has thrown its hat into the ring vying for Quinn’s services. Georgia coach Kirby Smart arrived by helicopter for a school visit with Quinn on Wednesday.
Coaches from Southern Cal, Alabama, Tennessee, Mississippi State, LSU and Duke have also been in. Quinn also landed offers from Notre Dame and Oklahoma on Wednesday, and Texas offered earlier in the week.
Quinn plans to visit Clemson for the March 8th junior day, and he’s excited to get the chance to meet the Tigers’ new defensive coordinator Tom Allen.
“I was hyped that they got one of the best defensive coordinators in the game,” Quinn exclaimed. “I’m excited to see what Clemson has in store for next year and future years.”
He’ll take more visits in the spring and then official visits in the summer. After that, he’ll be ready to make his decison.
“I want to go somewhere where I will be best developed,” Quinn said. “I also want to go to a place where it’s like family.”
