One of the recruiting guests for South Carolina Saturday was DL Bryce Robinson (6-2 235) of Marietta, GA. The game visit was the first time for Robinson inside of Williams-Brice Stadium and it came a few days after defensive tackles coach Travian Robertson issued him an offer. While it was his first game visit to USC, it was not the first in-person contact between Robinson and the Gamecock staff.
“It goes back to my freshman year, back to 2022, when I took a visit there for a camp,” Robinson said. “My dad is my high school coach and handles my recruiting. He was talking to Coach Robertson, and they were talking about the game and then he sent him my film. They broke my film down and he gave a call back during practice and told me I have the offer. That made the rest of my day good and my practice good. I was going to go to the Florida-Miami game but as soon as they offered, I went ahead and went down there for their season opener with them versus Old Dominion.”
“I like South Carolina. I also like Coach Robertson,” Robinson continued. “It was good to get down there and talk to him. I liked the crowd involvement. You could feel the love there.”
Robinson got the chance to visit with Robertson during his time in Columbia and got an idea of what the coach sees for him at USC.
“He said he likes my run stop,” Robinson said. “Watching his scheme, he has guys that he uses more for third and short for run stop and then third and long for pass rush. He says the thing about me is he sees that he can use me for both. After getting that offer and then going down there that following Saturday, that puts in the top five or top three, more in the top three.”
Robinson added that he also likes Penn State, Arkansas, Kansas, Kentucky, Ole Miss, Texas A&M, Duke and West Virginia. This Saturday he is going to either Alabama, Auburn or Florida. The next weekend will be a trip to Texas, and then he’ll go to West Virginia the following weekend. He does plan a return trip to USC for a night game.
Robinson missed the first four games of last season with a broken foot. He estimated in his final seven games he had five sacks with 15-20 tackles for loss and 30-40 tackles.
Robinson’s father, by the way, is famed Grambling State quarterback Bruce Eugene, better known as the “Round Mound of Touchdown.” Playing at 283 pounds, he passed for 8213 yards and 90 touchdowns combined for the 2003 and 2005 seasons (he missed 2004 with an injury)
