CHARLOTTE: The Stanford football program that has joined the ACC is not the same Cardinal program that was one of the best in the PAC-12 last decade. From 2010-18 they won 94 games and three conference titles. But 2019 started a downturn from which they have not recovered. The Cardinal has but 17 wins over the past five seasons. Coach Troy Taylor, a former NFL quarterback, is going into his second season and has 18 starters back. He runs the offense so he knows that’s on him, and he expects to average more than the 21 points per game of last season. But he’s also got to fix a defense that yielded 37 points per game.
