STRecruiting: 2028 QB prospect Trey Wright is hoping a friendly basketball game will lead to a Clemson O-F-F-E-R

When Trey Wright (5-11, 180) is on the Clemson campus, he feels right at home. The 2028 quarterback prospect from Frisco (TX) Lone Star was in the Upstate last week to compete at Dabo Swinney’s High School Camp while also hoping to secure one of the coveted offers handed out to just a few quarterbacks each cycle.

Wright certainly made his case for why he should be a recipient.

“Getting to spend time with Coach (Chad) Morris and Coach (Tajh) Boyd was definitely one of the highlights,” Wright revealed. “Being able to sit down, talk football, and hear how they see me fitting into their offense was really valuable. The most impactful part was hearing their vision for my development, not just as a player but as a person. You can tell they’ve coached a lot of great players, and they have a plan for the guys they recruit.”

Additionally, he got to visit with Dabo Swinney to hear his vision for how Wright could fit into the program, with a meeting on the basketball court being scheduled for his next visit to Clemson.

“Loved getting to meet Coach Dabo and talk football with him as well,” Wright confessed. “He challenged me to a game of H-O-R-S-E, so next time I come back to campus, you should check back who won!”

Beyond friendly trash talk and what the Tigers envision for the young signal caller, Wright got a taste for the campus life, checking out what Clemson has to offer beyond the walls of the football facilities. He feels like, on this visit, he got the best of both worlds, and his grasp of what the Tigers are all about has certainly been enhanced.

At the end of the day, it still all comes down to an offer.

“A Clemson offer would mean everything,” he exclaimed. “When you look at the history they’ve had, especially at the quarterback position, it’s hard not to be excited about what they’ve done there. Guys like Deshaun Watson and Trevor Lawrence have all had success in that program, and that’s something every young quarterback pays attention to.”

Every time Wright steps on campus, the feeling is tough to describe. There’s something about Clemson, and the Texan is hoping this relationship has more in store down the road.

“It was great being back on campus,” Wright said. “Every time I visit Clemson, it’s a feeling that’s hard to explain. Clemson has a lot of tradition and a winning history, but you can tell how much pride they take in representing the program. It’s definitely a place that leaves a strong impression on you when you visit.”
