CLEMSON: Dabo Swinney held his annual summer press conference ahead of the start of fall camp, Tuesday. Swinney touched on a number of issues including where he expects the most improvement from quarterback Cade Klubnik, the high expectations he holds for wide receiver Antonio Williams and in what areas the Tigers need to improve to go from “good to great.”
Swinney pointed out that the Clemson defense, while very talented at all three levels, still has room to improve on its 2023 performance. Swinney would like to see Wes Goodwin’s unit be a little more consistent and be a little stingier in the red zone. He also expects a “big step” forward for Klubnik in his second year as the starting quarterback and anticipates fewer negative plays from that position in 2024.
Swinney also said that he was against the proposal that would have seen Clemson and South Carolina play their rivalry game on Black Friday. He did, however, say that he’d be willing to play the game at Williams-Brice Stadium on a Black Friday. He just didn’t think it was the right fit for a Tigers’ home game.
