Perhaps it’s heresy in our state to compare the men’s basketball clash between #24-Clemson and South Carolina to the one that takes place on the football field. And while the annual USC/Clemson football game holds the entire state in its grasp for three hours after Thanksgiving each year, this year’s basketball showdown deserves attention. But surely not as much as football, right? Well …

Now, while radio analyst Tim Bourret’s tweet may not change your mind about Wednesday night’s 8 p.m. tipoff at Littlejohn Coliseum, it does illustrate how important the 173rd meeting between the two is. The Tigers have won four of the last six meetings, but the teams have split the last four games in Clemson.

On Tuesday, Clemson head coach Brad Brownell met with the media to recap his team’s 7-0 start, which included recent road wins at Alabama and in their ACC opener at Pittsburgh over the weekend. Brownell also looked ahead to the renewal of the “Palmetto Series” on the basketball floor.
