Ty Plumblee stopped Camden QB Grayson White a yard short on a two-point conversion attempt in overtime to give Daniel a thrilling 49-48 victory over the Bulldogs Saturday night in the Class 3A state championship.

It’s the Lions third title in the last four years and capped off this senior class with a 51-1 record.

It was a back-and-forth affair that featured a combined 834 yards of offense. Camden (11-4) never led and fought back to score twice in the last 6:49 to force overtime. They trailed 42-28 but Jaquarius Mayrant ran a kickoff back 76 yards to make it 42-34 after the extra point was missed. The Bulldogs then got a fourth and short stop at the Daniel 46-yard line with 4:44 remaining.

Camden used a seven-play drive to cover those 46 yards and White scored from two yards out. He then added the two-point conversion to tie it at 42. Daniel (15-0) was able to attempt a 51-yard field goal as time expired, but it was well short.

Going on offense first, Daniel gambled a bit on fourth down. Kolton Chapman hit Jason Bish on a 5-yard TD where he just got across the goal line. Bruce Brown added the extra point.

The Lions were flagged for offsides on first down and on the next play and Mayrant took a jet sweep in from five yards out to make it a one-point game. Camden coach Brian Rimpf called time out to talk it over and the Bulldogs elected to go for two and the win.

This was the third time in four years Daniel defeated Camden in a state championship.

Chapman finished with 130 yards passing and one touchdown and added 117 yards rushing and two scores. Jakari Bennett ran for 145 yards and three scores. Tremaine Davis had two interceptions that included a 51-yard pick-six for Daniel.

Mayrant ran for 103 yards and three scores and added the kickoff return for the score. White also added 103 yards rushing and three touchdowns to go along with 116 yards passing.
