South Carolina opens its 2023-24 basketball season tonight at the CLA against Upstate. This will be year two under Lamont Paris and despite the loss of more than half of his scoring and rebounding from last year’s team, Paris believes that without a doubt this will be a much better team. The return of guard Meechie Johnson is a big reason for that.
After toying with the idea of entering the NBA Draft, Johnson decided to return to Columbia for at least one more season. At the recent SEC Media Day, Johnson expressed optimism about the season primarily because he believes the Gamecocks will be loaded with excellent outside shooters this season.
