South Carolina escaped with a win over Mississippi State last weekend despite giving up nearly 500 passing yards to Bulldogs quarterback Will Rogers. Rogers repeatedly hit the Gamecock secondary over the top with big plays. He had six completions of 29 yards or more including a 65-yard touchdown strike and another bomb of 60 yards.
Rogers has a very good arm, but it pales in comparison to that of Tennessee quarterback Joe Milton, who may have the strongest arm in all of college football. His throwing feats in terms of pure distance have been well documented. And his accuracy isn’t half bad at 62.5%. He’s thrown for 925 yards with eight touchdowns and one interception thus far this season.
USC defensive coordinator Clayton White Wednesday acknowledged to the media his deep guys have to be ready for some deep balls from Milton, and he’s doing what he can this week to prepare them.
