When the Coastal Carolina football team takes the field at Georgia Southern on Saturday, it will begin a twenty-nine-day span where the Chanticleers will be away from home. Three games in three states highlight a critically important road trip for the 2-2 Chanticleers, who dropped a 30-17 decision to Georgia State last Thursday night in Conway.
“I think our team likes the us against the world mentality,” head coach Tim Beck explained during his Wednesday press conference. To be successful, Beck believes, “we have to narrow some things down and clean some things up.”
Coastal has not performed well this season inside the red zone, partly because of the Chanticleers struggles to run the football. CCU is 14-of-19 scoring inside the opponents’ 20-yard line with eight touchdowns. However, half of those scoring plays came in CCU’s 66-7 blowout of Duquesne two weeks ago. Coastal also ranks 90th nationally, averaging just over 130 yards rushing per outing.
During his media availability, Beck preached patience with the new offense, along with lauding the way his team has bounced back this week in practice. He also previewed Saturday night’s 7pm contest with Georgia Southern on the NFL Network.
