#SECMD23: Alabama coach Nick Saban (AUDIO)

Alabama coach Nick Saban speaks to the media at the 2023 SEC Football Kickoff (Jimmie Mitchell/SEC)

Every time Nick Saban holds court at SEC Media Days, and Wednesday was his 16th appearance representing the Crimson Tide, media members expect the Earth to shake. Certainly, they figure, Saban will say something to make their day easier. He will give them plenty of meet to chew on. Not so much this time.

Saban reflected on his 10-day vacation to Italy to celebrate his 50th anniversary with his wife Terry, which he said he was at first hesitant to take but he actually enjoyed the time away and advised everyone to make such a trip. He praised the talent of his new offensive coordinator Tommy Rees and said bringing back Dillon native Kevin Steele as defensive coordinator was a no brainer for him. And he shed no new light on the quarterback competition.

Otherwise, no great reflections on the state of college football, the Transfer Portal or NIL. He might as well have been Clark Lea.
